Hudl Statsbomb: Shaping the Future of Advanced Data Analytics

4 Min Read

Hudl Statsbomb was officially launched at the Statsbomb Conference 2024. Find out how its integration into the Hudl ecosystem will benefit your organization.

The Statsbomb Conference 2024 brought together renowned industry thought leaders and experts, sharing their experiences from the world of sports data, in front of a sell-out crowd at Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium.

Kicking off the event, Hudl’s Senior Director of Elite Football, Ty Chin, and Hudl’s Senior Director of Product, Robert Wood, took to the stage to unveil the official rebranding of StatsBomb to Hudl Statsbomb, discuss how the integration will provide greater value to customers, and outline their vision of how Hudl Statsbomb will continue to push the boundaries of football analysis.

If you weren’t able to attend, either in person or on the live stream, here’s what you missed:

StatsBomb is now Hudl Statsbomb

The big announcement of the opening presentation was the launch of the official rebranding of StatsBomb to Hudl Statsbomb.

The combination of StatsBomb’s industry-leading event data, powerful API, and advanced metrics and statistical models, all integrated into Hudl’s broader ecosystem of video and analysis tools, therefore represents a significant step in delivering the most comprehensive and actionable insights in football analytics.

“Rather than just a rebrand, it’s StatsBomb becoming a key integrated component with Hudl’s suite of products,” explained Ty Chin in his opening speech. “It’s that we are stronger together.”

Hudl StatsBomb: Delivering added customer value

As data requirements evolve rapidly and many clubs begin to move towards predictive analytics, teams increasingly need more insight and more context, in order to feed decision making, improve performances, and enhance long term player development and recruitment.

With that in mind, while continuing to maintain the same quality of data that has become synonymous with StatsBomb, Hudl is also committing to building on that further with Hudl Statsbomb:

  • Customer support at a global scale. A diverse team of over 500 customer facing professionals across 18 countries delivering local and remote support.

  • World-class industry experts, at your fingertips. A staff of 20 customer solutions professionals with deep industry expertise, designing and executing high performance recruitment and performance analysis workflows for both clubs and national teams. This will compliment and amplify the work done by Statsbomb data scientists.

  • Extended coverage of high quality data. Continued investment in and growth of Statsbomb’s data production, innovating and pioneering metrics with more context, to be on the cutting edge of thought leadership. Our plan is to eventually scale Statsbomb’s high quality data across our entire library.

  • Your single, unified video and data solution. Hudl will combine video, tracking data and Statsbomb’s advanced event data to provide a holistic solution that provides a uniform data specification that maps across every single player, team and match that exists in the Wyscout database. In addition, Hudl will allow users to customize the definition of these metrics in line with their own game model or playing philosophy, with every moment tied to video.

“For example, 2023 saw the most cross-border transfers in football history - a trend that looks set to continue - so teams need insights on who will fit their game model, the style of play of the league, and their budget,” explained Ty Chin in his opening speech. “Therefore, having data that allows you to quantify the impact of the decisions you are making, combined with video, is mandatory for teams looking to compete in the global transfer market. Hudl Statsbomb provides that, all in one place.”

Innovating into the future

Moving forward, Hudl Statsbomb’s mission remains clear: to revolutionise the way teams and analysts approach the game through cutting-edge technology and data insights.

With Hudl Statsbomb as a key component of the Hudl Pro Suite, video and data will move seamlessly across your organization, becoming more useful and accessible.

“This will break down silos between departments by having a single source of truth, streamline workflows by removing the need to constantly upload and download, and ultimately allow full-context decision making,” said Robert Wood.

Analysts, data scientists and sporting directors will benefit from a number of innovative features, bringing this vision to life. Wyscout video will be available in the Hudl Statsbomb platform and they will be able to combine Statsbomb data and Wyscout video in Hudl Sportscode, ensuring all their contextual information is in one place, instead of different domains.

Wood also announced the continued development of Hudl Statsbomb’s analytics platform, as well as the continued expansion and improvement of physical data to cover the entire library, with more exciting innovations on the horizon as Hudl Statsbomb looks to shape the future of advanced data analytics.
