Combine allows high school football players to test their own athleticism.

LINCOLN, Neb. - As part of a press event held at Nike World Headquarters in Beaverton, Ore., representatives of both Nike and Hudl announced a new mobile app now available to high school football athletes across the country - Hudl Combine.

Hudl Combine allows athletes to test their own athleticism using only an iPhone. Verified scores are generated based on the results of four different events: the 40-yard dash, the agility shuttle, a standing vertical, and a power ball toss or bench press.

“Helping athletes improve and showcase their skills is at the core of what we do.” David Graff, Hudl CEO

While Nike is an obvious game-changer in the sports world, Hudl is no stranger to the market. Founded in Lincoln in 2006, the company provides sports video editing tools to teams at every level. Now operating out of 15 countries, Hudl serves more than 3.5 million coaches and athletes spanning 100,000 teams - nearly 16,000 of which are high school football.

“Helping athletes improve and showcase their skills is at the core of what we do,” said David Graff, Hudl CEO. “We’re excited to partner with Nike in this shared mission to provide an amazing experience for the high school football athlete. Hudl Combine will not only provide elite athletes the opportunity to compete at The Opening, but will help football players at all levels measure their performance and provide actionable feedback to help them improve.”

All score submissions are verified by Hudl representatives before a Nike+ Football Rating is calculated. The Nike+ Football Rating is an overall measurement of athletic ability, revered by the sport’s biggest names. The best Nike+ Football Ratings will be shared to team and national leaderboards, with the nation’s top scorers earning an invitation to The Opening.

The Opening is an annual event held at Nike World Headquarters, featuring 160 of the country’s best high school football athletes. The event, typically scheduled in July, is comprised of the Elite 11 Finals, the Nike+ Football Rating Championship and a 7-on-7 tournament.

The goal of Hudl Combine is to supplement several regional events hosted every weekend throughout the spring. Previously, athletes had to attend a combine in a neighboring city to even qualify for a regional. Their score at the regional would determine an invite to the Opening.

This app allows millions of athletes to perform those same tests in their own backyard. With a verified score, a new opportunity presents itself - the opportunity to reach the Opening and achieve their dream of competing with the best.

Hudl Combine is now available to download for free. Athletes can use existing Hudl credentials to access the full suite of tools and calculate their own Nike+ Football Rating.
