Championship Hudl Workflows with South Carolina Women’s Basketball

1 Min Read

We sat down with Hudson Jacobs, longtime Director of Women’s Basketball Video Services for the Gamecocks to learn more about their weekly dedication to film study.

The brands synonymous with winning in the women’s game—Tennessee, UCONN, Baylor, LSU, Stanford—are powerhouse programs that have dominated the sport since the early 2000s. The women’s game has grown dramatically over the last 25 years, and the competition in Division I has grown with it.

No list of powerhouse programs is complete without the Gamecocks of South Carolina. When you talk about dynasties, they cemented their place in the history books in 2024—and show no signs of slowing down.

From 2008-2017, head coach Dawn Staley rebuilt the South Carolina program, culminating in their first national championship trophy in program history. They’ve been a perennial contender ever since, hoisting the trophy twice in the last three seasons, including a perfect 38-0 in their most recent championship campaign.

The accolades speak for themself. Under Staley, the program has captured five SEC regular season championships, seven SEC tournament titles, four Final Fours, three NCAA national championships, seven Sweet Sixteen appearances, five SEC Player of the Year awards and five SEC Freshman of the Year awards. Staley herself has been awarded SEC Coach of the Year five times.

So what is the price of perfection? Every game, every practice, every drill, every shot directly impacts your team's success come March. Winning in April? That requires the highest attention to detail and preparation. That is the price of perfection.

The reigning national champions have long been avid users of Hudl Pro Suite. It’s a staple product that contributes directly to their success on the court. We wanted to learn more about the Gamecocks’ weekly dedication to film study—and to understand their go-to workflows with Hudl Sportscode and Hudl Instat. Hudson Jacobs, longtime Director of Women's Basketball Video Services for the Gamecocks joined us to share their process.
